Preparing to receive the Sacraments in the Robinswood Hill Roman Catholic Parishes

INFANT BAPTISMS
The parish priest celebrates the baptisms (or christenings) within our parishes. Parents would be expected to be attending Mass regularly in our parishes before enquiring about baptism for their children and we would encourage them to be actively involved as members of our parish communities.
Having made initial contact with the parish priest via telephone, email or through the Church Office he will arrange to visit you at home. Having completed the necessary forms and appropriate preparation he will then arrange a mutually convenient date for the actual celebration. Baptism is normally celebrated on Sunday afternoons or during the principal celebrations of Mass on Sundays.
All godparents need to be baptised Christians and at least one needs to be a devout Roman Catholic.

ADULT BAPTISMS AND RECEPTIONS INTO FULL COMMUNION WITH THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH
You will need to contact the parish priest for more details and to seek help with your discernment. Candidates would need to be attending Mass regularly in our parishes and would be expected to become involved in our life prior to embarking upon preparation. Preparation is normally undertaken with the parish priest or one of the catechists.
Adults are often baptised at Easter and during their path to faith they will become catechumens or candidates for baptism using the ‘Rites of Christian Initiation for Adults’ (R.C.I.A.)

CONFIRMATION
Confirmation is normally celebrated every other year and details of confirmation programmes will be published. Contact the Church Office for details.

RECEIVING HOLY COMMUNION FOR THE FIRST TIME
First Holy Communion Programmes are run in both parishes for children who have reached the age of reason (7) or are older. It is usual for the children to be regularly attending Mass prior to embarking on the course.
Details of both courses are available from the Church Office and from both churches.

MARRIAGE
Both of our churches are available for marriage. At least one party would need to be a Roman Catholic and at least one party would need to have some contact with the parish either through residence or some other association.
Both parties need to be free to marry and would need to be willing to participate in preparation. Please arrange to see Father Richard via telephone, email or through the Church Office. It is advisable to make contact at least six months prior to the wedding.

HOLY COMMUNION AT HOME OR IN CARE
Please contact the parish priest or the Church Office if you would like to receive Holy Communion at home. If a relative is moving into care please notify us so that we can arrange spiritual care

VIATICUM, HOSPITAL, AND THE SACRAMENT OF THE SICK
In emergency please contact the parish priest or the Church Office but do beware of leaving answer phone messages as he may be away. If you cannot contact the parish priest you might consider contacting St Peter’s Gloucester – Tel 01452 523603. If you are going into hospital please notify us so that we can inform the hospital chaplain.

THE SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION
Confessions are heard after the 6.30pm Vigil Mass at Matson on Saturday evenings or usually after the 10.00am Mass on Saturday mornings at Tuffley, otherwise an appointment can be made with Father Richard.
